example graphic Welcome to the Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore (OPSS). This is a spin-off from the original Singapore Chapter of SPIE which is no longer in existence. This new society aims to promote greater interaction between the Optics and Photonics community in Singapore both in academia and industry. With Optics and Photonics making inroads into virtually all areas of science and engineering, this society will provide a forum for discussion and growth among the various multidisciplinary groups.

To facilitate this we are planning, with your help, to start a quarterly magazine, organise and support local and regional conferences, have a discussion forum for greater interaction and an outreach program for students and professionals wanting to expand their knowledge. We hope to work closely with local industries and a couple of members of the executive committee are from industry. Indeed, we are in discussions with SPETA, NDTSS and other local societies to see how we can best form a win-win partnership. We are also exploring MoUs with SPIE, OSA and CLEO to see in ways in which their members are automatically members of the society and our members can benefit from the enormous repository of these societies. Indeed, the SPIE Singapore Student Chapter is being mentored by the OPSS and members would have an opportunity to tap into and support the growth of this community in Singapore. We are exploring outreach activities for Schools, Research Institutes as well as Industries. Towards this end an Asian College of Optical Engineering (ACOE) is set-up to organise an annual workshop targeting a specific sector of the Optics and Photonics community in each year.

The Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore welcomes you to join as a member with the membership fee set at a nominal $ 20/ year. We hope to have members participate actively and welcome new ideas and proposals to make the Optics and Photonics Society cohesive despite the dispersive and diffractive community.

OPSS's main focus area are:

To promote optics and photonics and their applications in Singapore.
To facilitate the exchange of information related to optics and photonics through meetings, exhibitions, conferences, publications and other ways.
To publicize and disseminate information about optics and photonics and matters concerning the profession.
To encourage the advantage of optics and photonics in education and training those interested in these fields.

Annual general meeting (Agm)

The annual general meeting of OPSS will be held on Friday the 12th of March at the Jurong Country Club, 9 Science Centre Road, Singapore, 609078. During the meeting the new executive committee will be decided along with other discussions related to annual report, OPSS's activities, statement of accounts, etc.
